Culture Art plays a role enriching the mind by nurturing sensitivity and creativity. Even in COVID-19 pandemic, the 4th Artist-in-Residence Otawara 2022 was held to enhance opportunities for people to experience and become familiar with art while reducing the risk of infection spread.
This time, we invited Noriko Shibata and Ayano Oki who are active globally, as well as Chiang Hui Lin, Lai Ko-Wei, and Lin Fang Yu from the National Taiwan University of the Arts, to participate in sculpturing at the Institute of Art Cultural-Studies and live painting for shutter art in Kurobanetamachi.
The sculptures with the artists' individuality which were created in a rich natural environment brings a sense of comfort to our daily lives. Also, a school of sparkling and dynamic ayu(sweetfish) appeared in the shutter art inspired by local resources.
During the period, many visitors came to the exhibition, including local residents and those who became interested in the exhibition through newspaper and TV reports. I'd be happy if you could feel something by taking a close look at these new artworks which were created through performance art.
In conclusion, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the artists, the local community, and all those involved in organizing this event with their guidance and support. Yours very truly,
The 4th Artist in Residence Otawara 2022
