Size:H130×W130×D130（cm） Material:テラコッタ/Terracotta 作家プロフィール德田 哲哉(Tokuda Tetsuya)近年、私の作品は、モデルを使用せずに、自分に内在するイメージを膨らませて制作する事が多かった。しかし、その手法だけでは、どこか行き詰まりを感じていた。いつの間にか、作品が似たものの繰り返しになっていると感じた。「自分の作風は長い年月を重ねて作り上げたものだ。今更崩せない。崩してしまったら、誰の作品か分からなくなってしまうじゃないか。」という思いもあったが、そういう考えは、創造活動である芸術とはまったく逆の発想であると思い、今回は今までと違ったアプローチの作品を制作しようと考えた。彫刻の巨匠、ロダンの著作の中にこのような文言が出てくる。「地上はすべて美しい。汝らはすべて美しい。」「彫刻に独創はいらない。生命がいる。」この言葉を思い出し、今一度、自然（人体も含む）を観察し、自然の美を表現、制作したいと思った。そこで生命感、存在感が満ち溢れる魅力的な隣人が居る事を思い出した。この隣人の魅力を目一杯表現すれば、良い彫刻になるのではないか…。隣人にモデルを依頼し、その結果この作品が生まれた。隣人を純粋で巨大なエネルギーの塊として表現したいと思い、身体は省き、顔だけの大きな塊の作品を制作する事にした。自分の引き出しからは出てこない、顔の造形やパワフルさに新鮮さを覚え、自然から学ぶ事の喜びを久々に感じた。 鑑賞者には、この作品から力強さを感じてもらえればと思う。For my recent works, I have often created them without using models, but by expanding the image inside of me. However, I felt that I became stuck by using only this method. At some point, I felt that my works had become a repeated collection of similar ones. I had been thinking, 'My style is something I have developed over many years. I can't break it now. If I did, it would be hard to tell whose work it was.' However, I thought that this kind of thinking is completely opposite from art, which is a creative activity, and decided to create a work with a different approach this time. In the writings of Rodin, the master of sculpture, we find the following statement: "Everything on earth is beautiful. All of you are beautiful. A sculpture does not need creativity. It needs a life." With these words in mind, I wanted to once again observe nature (including the human body) and express and create the beauty of it. Then I remembered that there is an attractive neighbor who is full of life and existence. If I could express the attractiveness of this neighbor fully, I thought it would make a wonderful sculpture... I asked the neighbor to be my model, and this work was born as a result. I wanted to express the neighbor as a huge mass of pure energy, so I decided not to include his body, but to create only his face as a large work. I felt freshness in the form and power of the face, which did not come from my own image, and felt the joy of learning from nature after a long time. I hope that the viewers will feel the power from this work. |
