Emancipated Form: In Honor to Kosta Bogdanovic I wanted to create sculptures that express harmonious 'Nature and Human'. That is why I chose granite (Inada ishi) which is the type of stone that can be used for various kinds of expressions. It leaves natural texture of surface since it splits easily, and it expresses 'natural and human-made' by combining it with machine work. Comparing to the natural rough texture of split stone, machine work makes it look unfettered and concrete. Although with flat surfaces, all lines of the edges are slightly curved. In that way, it follows the nature in a material and transmits the energy of the block of stone. With all these things, this simplified form is recognized even from a far distance. This art-work's theory is by Kosta Bogdanovic who is a sculptor, a professor, and my dear friend. I dedicate this sculpture to him. I am grateful to have met Mr. Kodai Hihara and work in this fabulous and beautiful place. Arigato! Hvala! Thank you! |
